Sunday 27th April against Oakridge at Home

Once the confusion of three teams turning up was sorted out Ampney's first game got underway. The two Day brothers opened the batting and set the tempo for the Ampney attack, both getting into the thirties. The attack then faltered with the next three batsmen scoring just 5 runs. Mark Degty and Swann stepped up to the wicket and knocked off 76 and 26 respectively to take Ampney to a strong score of 212. All the Ampney bowlers pitched in to bowl tight and restrict Oakridge to 75. But only 5 wickets were to fall and the match was drawn.

Sunday 11th May against N.A.T.S away 40 Over game

A beautiful summer’s day surrounded by trees!Ampney took to the field first on very much an up and down track. The N.A.T.S batsmen started well and were soon through the first 16 over’s for 67 on the board, despite good accurate bowling from Keats and Wilson. G. Gleed and Terry Day slowed down the run rate a bit, going for just 40 of the next 16, but with wickets beginning to fall Ampney started to look interested. N.A.T.S moved on to finish on a healthy looking total of 175. John Swann opened the batting with a good 34 and Martin Wilson knocked off another quick 25 after John was caught. But the sun had brought out the mating song of the Grindle and he put the steel through the Ampney backbone with a solid 56. Rutter and Litlechild saw the win home with 2 over’s and 5 wickets to go.

AMPNEY WIN

Sunday 18th May against The Nomads Away

A greenish looking track put Ampney on the back foot with wickets falling straight from the start. The Grindle ground out a 29 and Tristan Day bashed out a 16 but it was left to Mark Degty to hit another 50 (52) and Rutter to weigh in with 32. G. Gleed was unfortunate to be bowled by an absolutely unplayable delivery bringing young Ellis Dunton to the wicket to knock of a quick 14 leaving the Captain Nick Litlechild to, once again, bring Ampney home for a gettable 172.

The Nomads looked up for the challenge but were soon halted by some accurate bowling from Roger Keats (12 for 1) and some imaginative bowling from Gary Gleed (14 for 2). All of the other bowlers (King and Swann) then took wickets regularly but it was Ellis Dunton doing the most damage taking 3 key wickets. Ampney clutched on to 7 catches and not one ball was put down. The Nomads went for it but fell to 120 all out with 3 over’s spare.
